Enovity has been awarded a two-year contract with the California Department of Corrections to provide Engineering Support Services as necessary to estimate, design and engineer energy conservation measures for existing California Adult Correctional Institutions and/or Juvenile Justice Facilities throughout the State.

Enovity has been awarded two (2) three-year contracts with the Southern California Edison Company to provide on-call technical support and design assistance to assist Edison and its customers with the development and implementation of Savings By Design energy efficiency measures for new construction projects. Services will include design analysis support, energy modeling, and economic analysis. Under a separate three-year contract, Enovity will provide operational support for Edison’s Savings By Design Program in the areas of training, education and outreach development and implementation; marketing and promotion; program design and analysis support; and technical applications for customer-driven initiatives.

In the Southwest Region, Enovity has been awarded a contact with APS Energy Services Company, Inc. to provide on-call site energy audits, identification of energy efficiency opportunities, and energy and cost analysis for customer facilities.

Also in the Southwest Region, Enovity is now working with Tuscon Electric Power to evaluate the impact of various energy efficiency improvements to its long-running and successful TEP Guarantee Home Program. The Guarantee program rewards innovative practices for improved health and safety, comfort, durability and energy efficiency in new residential construction. Using the latest information on building science, TEP has developed construction requirements that each home must meet to qualify. Enovity is helping TEP ensure that its Program is compliant with new building energy standards that include the International Energy Conservation Code and the Energy Star Rating System. Services include research, analysis and computer energy simulation for the five model homes in the Program.

Enovity has been awarded a two-year contract with Maricopa County (Phoenix, Arizona) for on-call energy engineering and facility management services in support of its various conservation initiatives. Services include energy and sustainable design assistance, energy modeling, energy auditing, utility planning and design, building commissioning, building automation services, feasibility studies, and life cycle costs assessments.

Enovity has completed a Region 9 Supplement to the Federal GSA Facility Maintenance Guides. The Maintenance Guide project updated the existing guide with current maintenance practices and included equipment that is now widely used, but was not part of the existing version of the Guide.

Enovity welcomes Mr. Tim Chin, CEM to Enovity’s growing staff and announces the opening of its new office in the Southern California (Irvine). Mr. Chin brings more than 10 years of experience in technical sales, business development, building controls, and energy project management throughout Southern California. Tim has specialized experience in Invensys, Siemens, Automatic Logic and Johnson Controls.

Enovity welcomes engineers Kunal Desai, Xiang (Tim) Huang, and Kyle Marsh to its San Francisco offices. These three talented engineers bring a variety of experience in building evaluations, operations and maintenance, HVAC design and construction management.

Enovity launches its new $5 million customer-focused Boiler Efficiency Incentive Program. Enovity developed this program to target energy savings for large gas-fired commercial boilers for PG&E’s ratepayer-funded energy efficiency portfolio. Enovity will perform free detailed site evaluations of existing boilers and offers cash incentives for customers who implement recommended energy efficiency retrofits. Enovity has been contracted to provide LEED Fundamental and Enhanced Commissioning for two new campus buildings at the Las Positas Community College in Dublin.  Scope of work includes the 55,000 square foot College Center for the Arts and the 23,000 square foot Child Development Center. The Chabot-Las Positas Community College District is pursuing a rating of LEED Certified, Silver or Gold for all its new construction projects as an integral part of its Measure B Bond Program.

September, 2006

Enovity has been awarded a contract to expand the GSA Federal Region 9 Government Energy and Maintenance Network (GEMnet). GEMnet facilitates the management of more than 20 million square feet of federally-owned and leased space in GSA’s Region 9. GEMnet is an integrated web-enabled suite of software tools that includes a computerized maintenance management system (CMMS), called Maxweb that efficiently manages O&M work orders and allows remote monitoring of control systems.  Maxweb reduces operational costs by improving energy efficiency and reducing peak demand.

Enovity has begun work on Southern California Edison’s Sustainable Communities Program. Together with the prime contractor, KEMA Enovity is providing strategic sustainable consulting services that include energy technology assistance, energy modeling, and support for commissioning activities on new large complex mixed-use developments in SCE’s territory.

Enovity welcomes Tim Fackler as Senior Controls Engineer.  Mr. Fackler brings more than 20 years of diverse energy and controls project experience to Enovity that includes expert capabilities in Siemens control systems applications.  Tim will focus his efforts on controls integrations, monitoring-based persistence commissioning, retro-commissioning, controls troubleshooting, and measurement and verification work.

Enovity launches its 2006-2008 Monitoring-Based Persistence Commissioning (MBPCx) Program for Existing Buildings.  Enovity designed and is now implementing the incentive-based MBPCx program for PG&E’s 2006-2008 Energy Efficiency Resource Program Portfolio.  The program targets more than 4 million square feet in PG&E’s territory and will provide owner incentives for installation and utilization of fault diagnostic and detection (FDD) software that will allow for continuous monitoring of building energy and operational performance in large commercial buildings.

Enovity announces the opening of its new office in the Pacific Northwest (Seattle) and welcomes David Guthrie as Senior Controls Engineer. Mr. Guthrie has more than 20 years of controls industry experience and has been working with Enovity over the past ten years while formerly with Alerton, Delta and EMS Support Services.

Enovity is awarded a contract with the Sacramento Municipal Utility District to provide support for its Savings By Design New Construction Incentive Program.  Work begins on a new mixed-use development project in Sacramento that will be constructed in 2007.

Enovity is selected to provide retro-commissioning services for the State of California 2006-2007 Retro-commissioning Facilities Program.  Enovity will retro-commissioning 1.16 million square feet at sites that include the Department of Health Services Richmond Laboratory, the California High Patrol Training Academy in West Sacramento, the California Medical Facility in Vacaville, and the San Quentin State Prison in San Rafael.

Enovity welcomes Robert Rodriguez as Senior Controls Technician.  Mr. Rodriguez brings more than 15 years of diverse energy and controls project experience to Enovity, including expertise in Delta controls.  Robert will focus his efforts on new construction commissioning, retro-commissioning, controls troubleshooting, energy studies and measurement and verification work.

Enovity has been contracted by the Folsom Cordova Unified School District to commission four new school FCUSD campuses.  These include Vista Del Lago High School, Russell Ranch Elementary School, White Rock Elementary School, and Cordova Lane Elementary School.

Enovity has also been awarded a contract with Southwest Airlines to commission their new office tenant improvements that are part of the Oakland International Airport Terminal Expansion Project.

Enovity welcomes Randy Despain as Project Manager.  Mr. Despain joins Eric Koeppel in our Arizona office and comes to Enovity with a prior history of professional work with Greg Cunningham and Jonathan Soper at a former company.  Mr. Despain brings more than 10 years of energy project management and implementation experience to Enovity.

NCBC in San Francisco is a huge success.  As one of the major sponsors at the recent National Conference on Building Commissioning, held at the Fairmont Hotel in San Francisco on April 19-21, Enovity helped conference organizer PECI manage the site tours featuring two Enovity commissioning projects in San Francisco.  Enovity, together with Federal GSA Region 9 Energy Manager Mark Levi and Morphosis Architects project architect Tim Christ, presented the new 600,000 square foot GSA San Francisco Downtown Federal Building in a two-hour presentation and walking tour.  The new facility is still under construction at 7th & Mission Streets.  Enovity is the Commissioning Authority for this project and has developed a Measurement and Verification (M&V) Plan for the LEED E&A credit.  Enovity also assisted the Marriott Corp in showing off the results of its retro-commissioning and measure implementation at the 1.4 million square foot San Francisco Moscone Hotel at 4th and Mission Streets.

Also at the conference, Enovity Principal Jonathan Soper presented a paper entitled Continuous Commissioning Through an Operations and Maintenance Contract that described Enovity’s on-going work in operations and maintenance, continuous commissioning, energy planning, and energy project implementation at the Phillip Burton Federal Building.  He also participated in a panel discussion related to Lessons Learned and Best Practices for Retro-Commissioning.  Enovity Principal Greg Cunningham moderated a conference session that highlighted recent work in Monitoring-Based Commissioning at UC and CSU Campuses. Enovity was also an exhibitor at the conference.

Enovity announced that it will sponsor the upcoming National Conference on Building Commissioning, to be held at the historic Fairmont Hotel in San Francisco. Principal Jonathan Soper, P.E. will present on Ongoing Commissioning performed at the Phillip Burton Federal Building, where Enovity is contracted to the Federal GSA to provide Operation and Maintenance O&M Services. The conference will also feature site tours of two San Francisco facilities that Enovity has been commissioning: the first is the New GSA Downtown San Francisco Federal Office Building, and the second is the Marriott Hotel where Enovity recently completed both the Retro-Commissioning Plan and self-performed the implementation of recommended measures.

The Marriott Hotel Corporation has hired Enovity to manage the implementation contract for HVAC, lighting and control improvements at its Marriott Courtyard hotel in San Francisco.  The improvements include those recommended by Enovity as part of its retro-commissioning work for the California Statewide Building Tune-up Program (BTU).

Enovity completed a feasibility study for a fuel cell distributed co-generation installation at the Ronald V. Dellums Federal Building in Oakland. Only fuel cell technologies were considered for the prime generation of electricity.  The evaluation examined the engineering feasibility for fuel cell technologies and considers issues such as alternative technologies, equipment efficiencies, installed cost, space requirements, fuel costs, and environmental impacts.

The Sacramento Municipal Utility District (SMUD) has awarded Enovity the contract to provide retro-commissioning services for its own SMUD Customer Services Center in Sacramento. The ten-year-old Customer Services Center was a state-of-the-art facility when it was originally built in 1995. Enovity engineers will also assist SMUD with the commissioning documentation requirements for the LEED Existing Building certification.
